Renewable Energy Projects in the Saffron Walden Area

Saffron Walden Community Energy is a not for profit organisation set up to work on carbon reduction initiatives in Saffron Walden and Uttlesford.

We have just started up and are trying to establish a number of community scale projects for renewable energy generation.

We are also interested in helping to reduce energy use and cost, so will provide information about this over time.

As a member of Community Energy South, we are one of a growing number of groups up and down the country who are engaged in grass-root initiatives to reduce carbon use.

This also indicates to our politicians and to businesses that we are serious about trying to reach zero carbon.

We are currently in discussion with Community Energy South and our local councils to identify some initial projects and sources of funding.

Your Carbon Footprint

Switch to a clean energy provider

Buy your energy from a company using 100% renewable electricity. Some also have green gas tariffs as well.

Reduce the amount you fly

If you’re a frequent flyer, can a flight be replaced by a train journey or video conference call?

Less red meat and dairy

A healthy, balanced diet requires very little meat or dairy and can make a significant impact on your carbon footprint. Also, try and buy local, seasonal food.

Leave the car at home

Walk or cycle for shorter distances (with added health benefits) or take public transport.

Home improvements

Get better insulation, use more energy efficient devices, and consider fossil fuel free heating.
